Intercom Fin
Intercom Fin answers support questions from your help content and runs configured backend actions through Data connectors and Procedures. It works with Intercom's support inbox and can hand conversations over to your support team.
Intercom Fin is a strong customer service agent. It answers from your help center, acts through APIs you configure, and hands conversations over to your support team. HelpAlive is an AI product expert: it lives inside your app, answers users' questions, builds guides on the fly from your docs and the page they're on, and does the steps for them. The difference lies in when and how the help is presented. A chat answer might explain a path such as Settings → Account →... or show a screenshot, leaving the user to find the right controls. With HelpAlive, your users receive the help they need right when they need it and have an expert walk them through to the end.

Personalized in-product help for your SaaS users. HelpAlive combines published documentation with the controls and states on the user's current page. It guides users or does the steps for them. You choose which customer accounts and users can use actions.
| Comparison | Intercom Fin | HelpAlive |
|---|---|---|
| Who authors the guide | Nobody writes a guide: the output is an answer or an API action, not a guide. | Nobody. Every guide is generated at runtime for that user, from your docs and the page they are on. |
| Covers a task nobody wrote a guide for | It answers if your help center covers the task, as text, not a walkthrough. | Yes. HelpAlive generates the walkthrough. |
| Answers a question mid-task | Yes, in Messenger, using your support content and available customer and page context. | Yes, seeing the page. The user can pause a guide, ask about the control in front of them, then continue. |
| Does the steps for the user | Through backend API calls you configure with Data connectors and Procedures. Clicking or filling fields in your product's UI is not described in the Intercom documentation reviewed. | Yes, in the user's session, in the UI: HelpAlive clicks, fills fields and scrolls. You choose guidance or actions per customer account and per user. |
| Setup | Messenger snippet on every page, user identification by user_id or email, a help center, then connectors and Procedures. | One script plus identify(), then connect your documentation. Guides work on the first page a user opens. |
A Fin Procedure can use a Data connector to resolve a backend request, such as finding an invoice. An in-product setup question also needs the user to locate controls on their own page. HelpAlive connects the answer to those controls.
Intercom’s Product Tours are authored in advance; HelpAlive builds a walkthrough from your published documentation and the current page. In actions mode, it can click, fill and scroll when you allow it. If a step needs input, it asks or pauses. If it cannot finish, it stops with a recap of what was done and what remains.
Keep Fin for billing and policy questions, alongside your support inbox. Add HelpAlive for in-product how-to questions; each runs from its own script.
